Major pentatonic 6/9= 1 2 3 5 6 Hirijoshi minb6/9= 1 2 b3 5 b6 Thats natural minor aka aeolian Heres Dorian Kumoi min6/9 1 2 b3 5 6 Phrygian Minb6/b9 1 b2 b3 5 b6 Locrian min7b5/b6/b9 1 b2 b3 b5 b6 They all have interesting modes. Hirijoshi has lydian pent 1 3 #4 5 7 Kumoi is referred to as dorian pent It has a good locrian pent mode 1 b3 4 b5 b7 Hirijoshi could be concidered Aeolian pentatonic. It has the 2 notes minor pentatonic avoids. b6 and 9.

Theres alot more to that scale. 5 modes and alot of ways to superimpose it to get all the modes and much more. 5 2nps shapes, 10 sweeping patterns. 131313 nps and 313131 nps shapes. 5 232323 nps and 5 323232 nps shapes.

i really think that Friedman took alot of his licks and shreds from Stochelo Rosenberg (Rosenberg Trio) especialy stuff from Seresta album 1992. Hangar 18 intro and tornado of souls shred sounds so much like Bossa Dorado and all diminished licks ...etc

For YEARS I was convinced I had read that the minor pentatonic was the ONLY scale for rock .

One thing that helps me learn a new scale is understanding how it's made up and how it varies from one I already know.

I learned the minor scale before the major scale and I blame Santana
